TH11 Update brought out Hitler and Quintero's Show

This by far is the most hated update of CoC history. Just did a simple google search and I get more hate hits than info hits. Of course, Hitler 'Downfall" has to be one of the most famous commentaries. And there is also the Quintero's show this time as well... Check it out

I believe supercell has heard the messages loud and clear. Here are the things that happened in just last 3 days:
1. They quietly gave out 1 gem boost on EVERYTHING without an announcement. That includes all barracks, factories, collectors and heroes. That's a huge pump into the resource pool
2. Before I came by to say hello to the clan, I was an inactive. Both Kitty and Syd's bases were not touched after days of absence. Full collectors, full loot, no one came to bother our bases. Now,Kitty's base is raided 2-3 times a day despite I haven't logged in at all for days. But Syd's base is still out of sight sitting on perfect full collector without disturbance. So that tells you they are slowly putting inactive back in the queue..

I bet Supercell didn't encounter such a strong community pushback on the updates but too proud to admit they made a mistake. But things will be quietly changing as time goes by. But only time will tell.

Check out Syd's defend log.. Pretty ridiculous if you consider I am sitting on 200K in each collector

Our Clan's Attacking Ability and Why We Lost

I have always been wanting to find out our clan's attacking ability comparing to the clans we lost to so I can see rooms for improvement for our clan. I have always thought it was because our lacking ability to three star max TH9. Well, my 2 week long data gathering and final analysis told a pretty different story. Check this out:

The data I gathered are from our past 4 war TH9/10 performance comparing to the two clans we lost to.

Data Finding facts:
1. Our TH10's bit lacking 2 starring max TH10 comparing to their equal opponents. So TH10 guys, weight is on you again
2. Our TH10 is much better off dealing with mid level TH10. Hence, maybe TH9.5 can really help
3. Our TH9 can't three star max TH9. Opponent clans can't either, but they do a bit better than us. Overall, we had TH10's help so it came out to be a wash in the max TH9 category
4. Our TH9's ability to three star mid lvl TH9 is pretty good, but still missing more than opponents.
5. TH9 three star overwhelmingly come from hybrid. It's the future. No doubt about it.
6. We faced way more max TH9 than our own, which cost us the wars.

My Conclusion
Although our TH9's ability to three star is still slightly below the opponent clans, but we had TH10's help and Gowipe/Gowiwi did get us some three star as well, overall, we hit better on TH9 as a clan. So why did we lose? Here are the two reasons
  1. We were way outmatched on base strength. We had to face 52% max TH9 vs 42% enemy had to face. As the probability to three star a TH9 greatly increases when base strength drops, that gave enemy clans much better advantage to take us out
  2. TH10's ability to two star max TH10 still needs polishing.
What's NEXT??
1. Maybe we should upgrade to max TH9
So I have advised the TH9 to slow down on defense upgrades. Now I am thinking, man.. I am WRONG!! Maybe we SHOULD just go max like these clans that beat us so we outmatch everybody else! Your thoughts are welcome.

2. When facing 68K or above TH9 bases, prob should just stick with Gowiwi to get 2 star until u are good enough.

War Chart #5: 100% outmatched and my thoughts on TH .5

BADLY Outmatched
This is by far the worst match we have experienced ever since I started charting war weights. We were 100% outmatched on every base except 2 equal bases. How is that even a match?? And -56000 deficit on overall clan weight on a 25 base war is very significant. I think the programmers at Supercell needs to write an IF statement that :
If (outmatched base percent > 50%) then           DO NOT MATCH

My thoughts on .5 Base
After charting 5 wars, here is my thoughts on .5 base scenario
1. The value .5 base brings is obviously the offensive power is greater than it's defense. Overall, it brings down the clan weight.
2. I noticed that the Match will permit +/-2 TH level. Meaning, if we have 5 TH10, then the match can pare you up with 7 TH10 but a bit weaker. So if you had 5 legit TH10 and 2 TH9.5, we could have 9 legit TH10 in opponent clan, which is twice a much as our own. If your TH9.5 has the offense ability to two star their TH10, then it's prob not a big deal, but if not, you are stretching your legit TH10 real thin
3. It's a toss if they match you a TH10 with TH9.5 or max TH9 to your TH9.5. There is no rule, all random.

So with the above observation, given that our TH9.5 do have pretty good offense ability, I would advise not to upgrade to legit TH10.

TH8.5 is a different story. It's very hard to survive as a TH8.5 in the farming world. You can never save loot. Per my own experience, as soon as I built xbows, people stop wiping me 100%. So for your own benefits, I think TH8.5 should just go to a weaker TH9 while max out your troops.

More Thoughts on War Weight
The matchup system is severely flawed. I am hugely disappointed after looking at our last a few war data. When we outmatch opponent on base weight, we dominate, when they outmatch majority of our war bases, we struggle. So it kinda of diminishes this war game to  chances unless the clan overall knows how to take down bases regardless how maxed they are. Until then, there is only one rule :
My win/loss is determined by the probability to outmatch my opponent
Conclusion
To win wars these days, your only way to outplay the matching game is to be able to three star max TH9 and 2 star any TH10.. Same old same old right??

War Chart #4 - Mansoura And the Flaws of Clan War Matchmaking

So this war, we got totally outmatched on our top 14 bases, then Supercell compensated us by throwing in lowly TH7/8. How is that even a good algorithm for war matching??? I have charted 4 wars so far, this is 2nd time. That's 50%!

I also read on Reddit, that they will try to keep the overall clan war weight similar, within 50k. But not necessarily match you horizontally. TH levels are also 2 off in a lot of cases. Meaning, if you have 6 TH10, you can matched with 8. If you have 2 TH9.5, you are totally screwed cuz you can have 4 more TH10 than your own.

Here is this war's chart. Again, our TH9 having trouble with 68K above and needing TH10 help.

War Weight Charting 3 : vs Lebnese

So Chad brought up an interesting observation. So if TH9.5 don't work anymore, why we got matched with such easier top bases? Let's take a look at this chart and I have a few observations

1) It's true our top 3 bases totally destroyed their weights. So we didn't pair with max TH10 with lvl 40 heroes.
2) Our TH9.5 completely got destroyed with Thad down 11000 points and Alex down by 12000
3) They also have 9 legit TH10 vs our 5. That's nearly HALF more TH10 bases
4) Overall if you look at just the TH10 weights, we outmatch them by 22000 points, they beat us by whopping 39000 points!!!!
5) Same thing for our TH8.5. Both syd and Sif got screwed by 9000 points.
6) They made us our number (somewhat) by giving us easier TH8, TH7. Wow we got robbed!!!

From our attacking perspective, same old same old. Our TH9 struggle on anything above 67000,68000. Good job to Mike Hawk, only one three a max TH9

So let's keep observing for two more wars.

War Match Charting #2 - Fuerza Blowout Win

We did 67 vs 51. 89.64% destruction. TH10 didn't miss a beat. Two starred every equal opponent and three starred top TH9. As you can tell from this matching chart, they were 72% outmatched, similar to our situation in the previous war. We should be really prod that we didn't get wiped like this..

This war also indicated the same thing as our last war: Our TH9's ability to three star is somewhat capped at 67K weight. That's near max TH9. Once it gets maxed out, we start to have trouble three starring. So if we can up our game to be able to three star 68K bases without TH10's help, we will be in golden shape.

Th10 did awesome!!

More on how to three star popular Internet bases

Just bookmarking this page. You can find a ton of videos and maps on this site to show you how to three star a lot of popular Internet bases from TH8 to TH10. Yep, TH10 included too!!

Supercell Still Does Unfair War Matches

Especially if you have TH 0.5, these will absolutely wreck your match now. I am pretty sure Supercell closed the gap. The last war we faced was very unfairly matched. From War weight perspective, we were 44000 points outmatched. From base perspective, 2/3 of opponents bases are stronger than our equal. This is totally unfair. I hope Supercell will rather search longer and find a closer match.

Sweet Spot of an Archer Queen Upgrade level

This is a very interesting graph to show. The question is what level of AQ upgrade give you the best ROI? (Return of Investment). Although we all know each upgrade gives her a bit more HP and a bit more DPS, but how does that translate to destroy defenses.

In this simulation, the person used typical TH10 defenses as benchmark and calculated how many shots would AQ fire to wipe all of them per level. You can see once she hits level 20, her ability of destruction drastically increases. The sweetest upgrades are between level 10 -15 and 20 - 25 where she reduced number of shots by the largest margin. Then it slows down. Once you pass 30, upgrades between 30 - 35 really sux. You are not getting much unless you go all the way to 36. And there is really no point upgrading between 36-40

Squatting Bear invented Hybrid Attack

Wow.. Baby Bear is the inventor of hybrid guys!!! While he was still a baby bear, he used the giants and hog combo and prob three starred his opponents every time!!! Here is an ancient video from 2 years ago. Think i was eating sushi and recorded using my iPad on top of my ancient iPhone 4

Funneling 101 and TH10 raids

In Clash, there is really only one rule. It's called "Distance Calculation". Your troops are gonna go to the nearest building or nearest defense. If you can manage where they are going, your 95% there. So, funneling is a huge part of a successful raid. The idea is to take out some building structures before hand so your main squad can go where you want them to go per the "distance" rule.

Funneling is very crucial to your kill squad's success so they go exactly where you want them to go to take out CC, AQ, designate bombs or kill AD depending on what your objective is, Funneling is even more crucial to TH10 raids success. Because on TH10, every sub second counts, the longer your troops stay in the wrong spot without taking stuff down, the slimmer the chance you reach TH or 50% or both. On TH10, your number 1 object is to get the golems tanking you to the core as fast as you could manage while covering grounds..

Now I am going to show you 2 videos on funneling and 1 video on TH10 raids. The first is made from the replays from our last war. I will show you why Poker's raid failed on 4 but Muzi succeeded. Then I will do an analysis on Bear's raid on 3, showing you his thinking process, why he ditched freeze and why this raid was such a massive success

Now onto the more technical details on funneling.
Unfortunately the examples are shown with TH9 raids, but it's the same concept

Now, onto TH10 raids.

For TH10, especially when you are dealing with max defenses, you need to have a very detailed plan. What you want to take out first, what's next. And that varies by map. TH10 raids are the hardest because I still believe the troop strength is owerpowered by max defenses. There is not a lot of rooms for error, hence funneling is huge so with very limited resources you have, they can still get the job done by going down the right path.

I have seen many failed Gowi raids on TH10 is cuz your golems went sideways and left your troops and heroes behind taking on fire. They just can't sustain that for too long. The raids fail cuz you didn't funnel correctly.

There is no one or two strategies for TH10, every map requires a different way of thinking/planning. But I think here are the core questions you must ask before planning out a good raid.
1) If you are doing Gowiwi ground, how do you get your tanks to the core while still covering 50% ground?? How will you ensure your golems will not leave your heroes and wiz hanging??
2) If you are doing air, how many ADs can u take out before sending in Laloons?? Can I kill queen and CC??

Watch this TH10 episode and focus on the thinking process of each successful raid. Every raid's every step has it's purpose, whether it's taking out ADs by kill squad or AQ walk taking down defenses. Nothing is random. In order to carry out every step of the plan, you have to funnel so no Oops moment. TH10 can't afford "Oops" and that's really the key to TH10 success.

How to become Elder and Coleader

Officers are earned, shouldn't be given. So I have spelled out the clear rules how you can become elder and Co in the clan and how to maintain your title once you earned it.

I will not make any changes to the existing titles until the end of this current season, which is Dec 5. So you have 25 days to catch up if your number is low.

Here it is :

Dansk mini war

Here is the reason why you shouldn't be copying bases from the Internet. Cuz there are millions of videos showing you how to three star them. A huge chunk of this coming war's TH9's are using popular internet bases. So I am going to list them here with the videos to show you how to three star them

#2 PCB - popular Chinese base. It's not exact same configuration, but close enough with some variation. Check out the Golaloon version, it's very close to our war's #2 base. Make sure you go from the queen side.

#3 and #6 are The Kardashians. There are so many ways to three star this ancient base

#5 The Giza
Holowiwi 3 (with commentary): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEi7279G6hE

#7 can be Gowiwi three starred
#8 is too weak so just trash it with whatever lol

Top War Clans and Our Stats

Interestingly enough, seems Supercell has opened up API access to pull data out?? This site has a lot of clan's war stats in their database, including ours!!!!! I didn't even track how many we won/loss/tie since inception but here it is.

How To Design an Anti 3 Base

In this post, I am not going to list the bases for you to copy. I want everyone to be able to tweak their own and make it anti 3. So understanding the concept is more important.

How to make an anti GoHo map
You want to have a base that you don't want to GoHo it yourself. What makes it hard to Goho?

  1. It makes my head spin when trying to guess where the DGBs are. Too many empty 2x4 spots by defenses.
  2. Even if I locate the potential DGBs,it's pain in the ass to send in the kill squad to cover it.
  3. Queen is too far from CC or potential DGBs, making kill squad's job real hard
  4. CC is hard to lure and far away from queen. Has to cost me more to lure and redirect CC

In the following example(Don't copy it. It's 9.5), the map has FIVE legit DGB locations spread across the map with CC and queen deep in the base. It makes the raid real hard to pin point where your kill squad's entry point is gonna be. It will still be three starred by GoHo but will take a couple of tries by the enemy clan ASSUMING they know what they are doing.

How to make an anti Golaloon base
Golaloon is all about ADs and WT positions. And Queen of course. You want a base that is
  1. really tough to reach the ADs while all four ADs are covering all your defenses. All ADs are positioned and protected by other defenses so loons will have to zig zag to get to them.
  2. Wiz Towers are not right by ADs so WTs won't be zapping at hounds all the time, but targeting at the loons
  3. Queen is not directly under AD so lava pups can't kill her easily
  4. Kill squad has a hard time achieving the objective with queen CC deep inside of the base with so many high HP storage protection.
Let's take a look at this same map again. See my white pen highlighting the looning paths, they will just dance around ADs and will take a while to reach ADs while hounds are taking huge hits by lvl 7.  Also, queen isn't under AD, so you will have to take out queen by kill squad. But kill squad is blocked by high HP storage. WTs will zap at your loons, cuz they are not in AD (hound) ranges. I personally would not raid this map with Golaloon. It's just way too much headache to deal with it.

I encourage everyone to think about how to tweak your own base and make it unique and hard to three star by using the above concepts. Good luck!!

Arranged War experiment

update: Both clans hit the search buttons the same time and took 30-45 seconds and paired with someone else. Oh bummer!!!! I think the reason is because a) we are lvl 8 clan, Anita is lvl 2 b) 10 base war is just small to create a difference. There are many other clans will have the same stats as ours. Not enough base to create variation. So i think you need minimum 25 bases closely matched to be able to match with each other.

Just for fun, we will do an arranged war with Anita's crew. I also get a chance to test out the theory of war weights, arranging war with specific clan, etc.

So here are the war weights. If you are picked from Coaches to war with them, it's purely based on your war weight. The theory is trying to stay as close as possible horizontally and vertically. There will be 1 TH10, 7 TH9, 2 TH8, No .5 bases

Golaloon Step by Step guide and OneHive tutorial video

Golaloon in my opinion is harder to pull off from execution perspective but it's a more powerful attacking method than GoHo.

There are a few things that can wreck your Golaloon raids if you don't take them into considerations:

  1. AQ and CC : AQ is like another air defense. Deadly to your loons. CC can kill your raids really fast.
  2. Wiz Towers: the danger of wiz tower is that your loons will often clump together and one Wiz Tower can zap all of them away in a few seconds.
  3. You can't take on a base with 4  lvl 7 ADs all alive. You must manage to kill at least one of the 4.

Scouting:

  1. You want to look for a base with easier accessible ADs. If they are on the outter edge and far apart from each other, bingo you got a good base to work with. If they are all centrally located, it could work pretty well too but you must know how to time loons and lavas so your lavas don't hang out by themselves for too long.
  2. Can your kill squad kill AQ, CC and one AD all together? If not, move on, find another map.
Planning your attack
  1. Obviously, your kill squad's job is to eliminate AQ, CC and one or two ADs. Think about what's the most efficient way to get that job done. You might need to quake open the base up so your kill squad can get in there faster.
  2. Once that portion of the base is under fire by your kill squad, think about your direction of attack by your Laloon troops. You need to pick a direction, either counterclock or clockwise to release your Laloon troops. We will talk more about that in the execution section. but for now, you need to pick a direction.
Execution
Laloon execution is much much harder than Hogging. This video goes into details about execution. I listed some most important aspects of the execution for your reference.
  1. Because Laloons are more powerful than your hogs and your kill squad doesn't have to cover as much ground as GoHo does, I usually use 2 golem kill squad to just target at AQ, CC and one AD.
  2. As your kill squad pushes in, don't wait too long to start your Laloon portion because loons can distract the defenses nearby and ease the fire on your kill squad. I will drop Laloon as soon as CC is down and one AD is dead
  3. You must pick a direction and do surgical deployment. Mass dropping loons will NEVER work. One loon's attacking power is massive so you don't really need a lot per defense target. I usually drop just 1 for archer tower, 2 for WT and 1 for any ground defense. You also want to start dropping 2 lavas coming in from different angels to absorb all traps. Timing between Lava and loons matter also. You don't want your lavas to hang out there for too long since they are much faster than loons.
  4. So as you rotate through the map, you drop more loons right next to the defenses and drop last lava as the rest of the Laloon travel towards the last defense. rage as needed.
  5. Do not let the loons clump together near WTs. That will get your loons killed really fast, hence why we must do surgical deployment. The loons tend to travel towards the nearest defense and sometimes all of them will do that, which causing them to clump together. You must have a plan to counter that scenario by taking out the defenses that will attract them to travel towards wrong directions.
Troop Comps
I use the following troop comp as TH9
1 CC golem
1 golem 30
3 lavals 90 (sometimes you can get away with 2, but I use 3 for maps with lvl 7 ADs and if I can only take out 1 AD)
15 loons 75
6 wiz      24
1 archer  1
Spells: 1 jump 3 rage or 1 rage 4 haste, or 4 quake 2 rage or 1 rage 2 haste.. Depending on the map.

How to GoHo on TH9 and OneHive war recap repost

Check out a dedicated GoHo guide. I personally had huge success with GoHo. I am also going to layout the steps when you are planning a GoHo raid

When Scouting, answer these questions:
1. Where is AQ
2. Where is CC
3. What are the possible DGB locations. This is the trickiest part. Some maps have more than 4,5 possibilities. You will just have to put down your bets. If you bet right, you got the raid, if you bet wrong, pray.
Then answer this question: Can my kill squad get rid of 1,2 and partial 3? If you answer yes, then this is the right map. If you are not sure, pick a different map. Some maps have CC far from queen. That's not a problem, just lure it out and attract it towards your kill squad. It adds cost so do decide if it's worth it or not.

Planning attack:
1. Your objective is to use your kill squad to take out AQ, CC and set off as many bombs as possible. If you can't set off bombs, take out the defenses by the bombs so your hogs will be less likely to go there. That bomb will be compromised. So you need to decide a point of entrance for your kill squad

2. Use quake or jump for your kill squad? how will u get into the area to accomplish the above objective? Decide your pathing for your kill squad. If kill squad fails the objective to set off bombs/kill AQ/kill CC, then your raid will fail.

3. Now decide your pathing for your hogs. You should definitely do surgical deployment. I usually start dropping hogs near the kill squad after the kill squad take care of CC. 2-3 per defense or 4 if two defenses are together. Drop a giant ahead of hog for distraction if needed

Troop composition
CC golem
2 golems 60
4 wbs 8
10 wiz 40
22 hogs
2 archers 2

Spells:
Either 4 quakes 2 heal 1 poision or
1 jump or 2 jumps rest heal and a poision

Execution
1.Funnel so your kill squad goes into center. Since I always use 3 golems for my kill squad, I drop 1 golem on the right side of my entry point and follow by 1-2 wiz to take out the structures. Same thing for the other side of the entry point. Then I drop CC max golem in center follow by wbs. Once wall is down, I then drop rest wiz (save 2), King. Once they are marching in, I drop queen last so she hangs back.
2. Drop hogs per defense, heal where the potential bombs will be. put heal down just a hair before hogs get there.

Now watch this video, it really does a good job explaining the ins and outs.

If you are TH10 and TH9, check out this video. So many awesome 3 star attacks. It has an AQ walk on TH10

How to AQ Walk and hog max TH9

check it out, pretty cool stuff. The guy goes into details about the thinking process, which I think is more important than watching a particular raid. Then you can apply the concept to different maps and raids.

The objective of AQ Walk is to take out as many defenses as possible while eliminating some pathing threat to the hogs (e.g. prevent hogs from going into DGB areas). You want to pick the map that has defenses within AQ’s reach but ADs are out of reach so they can’t harm healers. Spacing between the single target defense is a huge concern because your AQ can’t take 2+ single target at once while still taking splash defense’s hit. Last but not least, you need to know how to funnel. So your AQ walks towards certain direction. Once she meets up with your kill squad, she needs to go into the core with your kill squad.

This video is well worth your time. I highly recommend all players to watch it

Video collection shows you EXACTLY how to three star most common TH9

Every TH9 player should keep this doc close. It has a list of the most commonly used TH9 maps and how to three star them in youtube videos. Definitely use it as your war reference guys!!!

How the new war matchmaking works and how to arrange war with a specific clan

Sorry about the long topic. We will explain two things in one post since they are related.

How new war matchup works
So each player in your clan carries a war weight. It's the available gold or elixir loot your EQUAL TH opponent can get from you. So in the following example, Bear weights 92K. Since the guy attacked him is also a TH10, there is no adjustment.

But if you look at Seb's, the available gold loot shows 63900. But the guy attacked him is TH10, so you need to add 10%, which is 7000 to his loot number. So 63900 + 7000 is roughly 70K, which is Seb's war weight.

After you obtain war weight for each player in your clan, you add all of them together and that's your clan war weight.

What Supercell does is trying to find you a match that is close enough vertically and horizontally. Vertically means your total player war weight , aka , clan weight should be as close as possible. If no opponent is close to your clan weight while you are searching, you wait until you find one. They are also trying to match you horizontally, meaning our #3 Bear should get somebody who weights around 92K  and our #7 Seb should get someone who weights 70K ish. But this is where things can get tricky. Although Supercell TRIES to match you equally, sometimes, it doesn't happen. And you can tell when the war match is off a bit. Usually is when the opponent has bunch of rushed TH10 and since we have a lot of solid TH9, we get screwed. Cuz doesn't matter how you slice dice it, a max TH9 trying to take on just 1 inferno is tough.

How to arrange a war with a specific clan
This has been done many times successfully, especially among the elite war clans. I know OneHive and Kara Heroes just did one on Oct 23. Reddit does that a lot. This is what you need to do to have an arranged war:

  1. Know your player weight and clan weight.
  2. Work with your opponent's leader to balance out the weight vertically and horizontally yourself. So let's say we will do a 20 player war, it's better to pick equal amount of TH10, 9 and 8's with similar defenses. Then you find your player weight and add them together and try to stay within 100 points.
  3. You hit the button the same time. You will get matched unless someone identical to you is searching the same time, which is quite unlikely since you planned it out to be in such a small +/-margin, you should be matched.
What contributes most to war weight
So the next question is .. does TH9.5 and TH8.5 make sense. Generally speaking, if the players are NOT adding any defenses but obtaining higher TH troops, then it is worth doing it. For example, I am TH9.5. I have 5 spells going on 230 troop space. My weight is 70K, lower than Seb's. So upgrading just a TH didn't seem to do any damage.

I also saw some KC's players weight just 72K with max TH9 and lvl 30 heroes vs a 71K TH9 player with equal defenses but just lvl 16 heroes. That tells you heroes don't weight much in comparison to defenses.

Then you look at infernos. Poker in our clan has war weight 86K, his defense is half TH9 half TH10, but he has infernos. That is 14K more than our max TH9!!! That tells you infernos weight a TON!!!! So is XBOW. Our Th8 player weights 48K vs TH9 are at least 64K.

So defenses add weight, offense, not so much.

How to Golaloon correctly and how to path manage loons

This thread is quite eye opening if you want to get a hang of Laloon or Golaloon attacking methods. It's actually all come down to path management so you can quickly take out ADs and Wiz Towers. This guy for sure know what he is talking about. It also teaches you how to read map in a whole new way. Check it out. I have to warn you, even for a science person like myself, the stuff he is talking about is quite brain twisting mind bending. This is LONG post. But if you can get it right, you can conquer most bases.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Laloon isn't as easy as a lot of people think. I couldn't tell by your post, but if you're going for a 3 star, never bring minions unless its only a couple for clean-up purposes. Lavaloonian, is a 2 star comp, laloon, is the 3-star comp. On anti-air bases, timing is incredibly important because normally the air defenses and wizard towers will be positioned that loons take a really long to get to them. If you just yolo drop like most people do in matchmaking, you'll most likely get your loons clumped and they'll move away from the ADs. In war, good attackers will drop their loons in pairs on specific defenses that open up pathing, aka surgical attacking. This is important because on anti-air bases the first pair of loons will path away from the AD, but the second pair dropped several seconds later should ideally path toward the AD. Here's an example.

If you dropped loons from the southeast in a line, none of them would go to the AD. If you wait for the southern AT/mortar to die, you might be able to get loons to path toward the AD, but they won't unless you killed the cannon/AT to the NE and even then loons could still path to the WT towards the NE. No matter what angle you approach that AD from, it's a huge pain in the ass to take down. Even if the attacker decided to use a golem and heros to get that AD/AQ/CC, it's not easy. The attacker would have to prevent his wallbreakers from dying to the single bombs and then deal with 3 teslas, a cannon, an AT, an xbow, the BK, CC, skellies, AQ, storages before getting his AQ to snipe the AD.
It's extremely hard to penta/quad laloon a base like the one above because the pathing keeps the ADs and WTs alive longer. It's difficult to kill 5 hounds quickly, so the better way you can stop laloon is by killing the 'loon' portion of the raid. This is basically done by separating the hounds from the loons and letting WTs/teslas/ITs/ and air bombs pick away at the loons while the hounds fly away. A lot of people don't understand the importance of wizard towers. Even if they don't overlap the ADs if they can be targeted with the initial loon drop, they're essentially useless because they'll maybe take half the health from 2 loons. Usually you see laloon fail because of the clutch wizard towers and teslas left standing that couldn't be taken down. Personally, I believe there are a few TH 9 bases that are damn near impossible to penta or quad laloon because they have extremely good pathing, well positioned WTs/teslas/AQ.
I also strongly believe penta/quad laloon involves an element of luck, which makes it less reliable and is the reason why I no longer use it on strong TH 9s. You never know how quickly your pups will aggro onto the enemy AQ or how quickly they'll kill the cc wizards. If they fail or take awhile, your raid can come to a halt very quickly. A lot of laloon raids literally come down to fractions of a second, which is why timing is incredibly important. I've seen some raids that look like domination, but in fact the attacker was able to get a stray loon on an AD that otherwise would have been untouched. Even though he may have 3'ed with 10 loons left, if that one loon didn't happen to stray off because the tesla pop stunned it enough to skew it's pathing, the AD would have lived and it would have been an 80% 1 star. We've all seen some attacks come down to 1 or 2 loons vs 1 archer tower, sometimes the archer tower wins and sometimes the loon, but either way it literally comes down to the fractions of a second it takes for the bomb drop to hit the ground.
If you have both heros, I would resort to golaloon as a means of attacking. Golaloon is much more versatile and can be used on any base, the only thing that differs is the number of golems and spells. Golaloon is much more powerful for a few reasons. First, it eliminates the CC/AQ/AD or 2AD if done properly. More importantly, it can make pathing much easier to get to the remaining ADs, which otherwise would have been much tougher in a penta laloon attack. It also can eliminate some air mines and bombs. It takes the 'luck' element out of the loon portion because you're killing the AQ and CC beforehand so you don't have to worry about pups killing them. However you do have to get some good fortune and hope your AQ doesn't shoot everything but the AD.
Symmetrical bases are not too hard to laloon because the pathing is identical on each side unless the defender positions his teslas differently on each half. When scouting the base really think about how the loons will path. Will they get to an AD quickly, what about the wiz towers? If they reach the AD on the second defense they attack, then it'll go down quick. If the AD's will die fast, take 4 hounds an extra loons, otherwise take 5. Generally it's good to get the AD down fast, but if you get your hounds way to far ahead of your loons, you'll have nothing to tank for your them if the the AD are really spread.
This is an example of a difficult base to laloon. Even though it's easy to get to the AD,

they'll go down quickly and then the hounds will fly far away leaving the loons behind with nothing to tank for them. The other issue with a base like this is that few pups will spawn over the AQ since the ADs are really spread. Take into consideration the AQ and her position when thinking about doing a laloon attack. You need to be able to rage pups over her to take her out. In Moskri's base the AQ doesn't cover any AD so she likely wont aggro onto a hound for too long and instead she'll run back to her altar and shoot loons in the core. For your laloon attack to go well, you have to think about how quickly you can get the ADs and wiz towers down. For this reason you should drop your loons surgically so they can cover more defenses and not clump up as much. On symmetrical bases you can drop loons in a line and often get away with it, but as you start dealing with harder and harder bases, dropping loons in pairs is essential to ensure your loons to path to the ADs and WTs as efficiently as possible.

LL(Laloon) is a complicated strategy. It can't be used on almost every base to get 3 stars. For reference, I am a low TH10 (almost TH9.5 really) who usually attacks the high TH9s in the opposing clan. Sometimes this means attacking my equal, but usually a couple spots lower. My success at tripling in wars is based on several key factors when scouting:
  1. Can I kill the AQ? How hard will it be and how much will it cost? If I can kill her with my cc kill squad and heroes, then it's usually game over.
  2. Can I lure the CC? If it's an easy CC draw, that makes the whole attack easier.
  3. Are the WTs next to the ADs? If they are, it's a cakewalk. If not, you have to be more careful and plan better.
That's pretty much all I look for. The formula from then on is simple:
  1. Lure the CC over to the side with the enemy AQ.
  2. Deploy 223 CC and heroes to wipe out enemy CC and AQ. As soon as AQ is engaged with kill squad, move on to the LL. Trust your kill squad, and don't waste time watching. This is important because time can be a big factor for cleanup if all your hounds don't pop. It is crucial though to remember to rage your heroes, so while you are dropping the LL, keep an eye on them and activate if they get to about half health. This will ensure that the cc/aq kill gets completed and will substantially help with cleanup after all the defenses are down.
  3. Drop LL. This is the tricky part that most people don't realize is so hard. The three sources of inconsistency in LL are first that people don't deal with the enemy AQ/CC, second that they do not plan loon pathing as /u/edpgolfer pointed out, and third that they do not time the loon/hound placement properly.
The first destroys people because a high AQ is as powerful as an AD, and a pack of wiz or a dragon can also wreck you. The raged pups method just isn't reliable enough.
The second inconsistency causes people's loons to clump up. This makes them fodder for red mines and WT fire, but even worse it means that they totally overkill every defense they attack while taking fire the whole time. Loons are powerful but slow, and clumping them is like having three pekkas that go circling a base. Sure, they dominate every building they come to, but one pekka alone would accomplish the same thing. Half your loons are redundant when they are all clumped and they will die before they finish killing stuff.
The timing of the loons and hounds is really one of the hardest things about it. This third one is why some raids look ridiculously OP and others are 33% fails. You want the loons coming in as soon as possible behind the hounds so the hounds don't get wasted before the loons do their damage. BUT you also don't want the loons to get there first or they take the first hits and you lose 1/3 - 1/2 of them before the hounds even get to the fight. My experience with timing this perfectly (which again is really hard), is to drop the loons in groups of 2-3 per defense, but as FAR away from the base as possible. Then I wait until the exact right time to drop the hounds to get the timing just right. If for some reason, the best side to attack from has ADs on the edge or not enough space for the loons to safely be deployed, then I drop the hounds first. These raids tend to be harder for me, so if at all possible I try to take advantage of the blank space to get my timing right.
One other thing to remember is that you have to train your army specifically for the base you want to attack. You can't just bring a canned army comp and expect to triple with regularity. If the AQ is deeper in the base you will need a golem and jump spell with your kill squad. If the cc is hard to lure you might need hogs or more loons to get it out. If the pathing is weird, you might need to change your deployment plan. LL is OP but only if you tailor it to the base you are attacking. And some bases are truly anti-LL, so just avoid those and let someone else in your clan hit em with gowipe or hogs. For my LL I usually bring 20 loons, 4 hounds, two giants/hogs for luring, and 10 archers for cc kill and cleanup. In my CC I bring a 223. Two witches, two wizards, and three barbs. It's a standard offensive CC comp for wars because it can kill whatever comes out of the enemy cc. The three barbs take all the fire while the wiz and witches deploy. By the time the barbs are dead, the enemy troops are surrounded by ~16 skeletons and the wiz polish them off. Usually I drop it then put my queen behind. When the dust settles I tend to have both witches and at least one wiz still alive.
The last bit of advice I have is that I always bring a heal spell. Most of the time I don't end up needing it, but a single heal will work wonders for a clump of loons. If I mess up the pathing and my loons clump up (which usually doesn't happen until 3/4 ADs are down and most of the defenses are cleared), the heal keeps them going to finish the job. It helps cover for mistakes I make which makes the strategy more consistent.

TH10 Survival Strategies

TH10 war raids are tough. Sometimes you just don't know how to get to the center or stay afloat with 50%. I am going to dedicate this thread to showcase some TH10 strategies.

General tips for TH10 raiders:

1) First of all, I think it's a good idea for TH10 players to start pushing to Master and start getting used to achieving 50% to win raids. Loose the farming troops and try with lavaloons, hogs, golems etc. The bonus will make up for your cost of the troops. Watch some pushing videos which are all about 50%.

2) practice surgical attack deployment. Design your attack around the maps. For example, if ground defense are far away from infernos and ADs, use loons to take them out before sending ground troops to ease the firepower in general. If the map is tight, use quake to open up. So point is, no one size fits all so study the map and plan out your attack

3) Watch the elite clan three starring TH10. I have attached One Hive clan's war recap here. Check it out. You will see they really tailor their troops and attack strategy per the map. For example, a map with lvl 3 single target infernos will wreck your golems, but mass giants got the job done. A map with outer skirt ADs are ideal for Golaloon.

4) Funnel and pathing management is key to your 2 star success. You will see most elite clans are ditching freeze and go with quake or jump. 4 jump and a rage is very common now. The point is, your troops need to go to core as quickly as possible. Time is money. That 2,3 seconds will make or break your raid. Funnel is huge. It's a method to keep your main troops on path while having other troops (wiz or minion) taking out building structures to force your main troops to go a certain direction. All good players know how to use funnel concept to direct where your troops would go. You won't be surprised and yell "My troops went outside" if you funnel right.

Here are the videos for your entertainment. Check them out.

Here is a video of TH9 attacking TH10 with surgical attack.

here is a video shows how to use mass golems and jumps to conquer ringus. Note even the heroes are max in the video, they were unharmed even after TH falls.

Now onto war raids with TH10. Unfortunately, higher heroes do play a major part of your success. I did find some videos showing how to 2 star TH10 without max heroes. The most important thing is to plan ahead per the map layout. You have to have a plan with all your troops. Check out the following two videos talking about how to conquer TH10 with mid level heroes.

Here is an all elite TH10 clan war raids recap showcase three starring techniques
I will keep updating when I find good stuff to show.

Asians showing off surgical hog attack with Balloons and Giants aid

We've all got wiped by those Asians in wars. The key to these clans success is that majority of their players deploy a well planned attack with absolute precision, aka surgical attack. They know exactly where and how many loons or hogs to deploy and pace themselves.

Here is a very remarkable surgical attack with mainly hogs. Each troop has its purpose, even the goblins. Yup, it's a good idea to use gobs to clean resource buildings cuz they are much faster than anything else. check it out

GoHog in depth - how to three star max TH9 with Golem Hog combo

Another post about Golem Hog combo because we have seen some massive successes and massive failures too.

Here is what I concluded as how to three star a max TH9 with GoHog.

1. Most importantly, where are the double giant bombs (DGB). In some cases you can still use hogs even the maps have DGB, what matters is where they are located at. Can you either eliminate them first before you send in hogs? Can you avoid them? If you answer yes, then go for it. But most definitely take that into consideration. I have seen ppl sending a few hogs to designate just one of them or use gowi heros to take them out. Or if they are placed poorly, you can avoid them all together, which is shown in the following video.

 2. You gotta get rid of the heroes or at least the queen. AND you also need to rid of CC. If CC and queen are together, bingo, send in Gowiz Heroes and hopefully you take care of the business. If CC is far away from Queen, you want to lure the cc out first kill them, or you can lure them out and make them walk over to where queen is, then release your CC golem and send in Wiz and take care of Queen and CC together. Either way, get rid of CC and Queen or you are dead meat.

 3. Now, the main part. The hog part. I saw many successful attacks don't wait till your gowiz heroes are depleted then send them in. They are sent in almost as soon as CC and queen are dead. The most critical factor as how successful your attack will be is to calculate your hogging path. Where they will go next? where should you drop heal? The most deadly defenses against hogging other than DGB is wiz tower, they can zap all of your hogs away so make sure you heal by wiz tower. According to the guy in video, 3 hogs can take down a single target defense so if there are one archer tower and one wiz tower, you need minimum of 6 of them assuming no other defenses are nearby. So definitely don't separate your hogs too much if there are a lot of defenses around, they won't last.

 4. Skeletons chase your hogs around and smash them till they are dead. Not sure how to deal with that one if you don't know where they are. All the successful attacks didn't show skeletons or they were handled by the Golem wiz Heroes part. This is really a wild card in my opinion.

Anyway, this guy does fairly good job explaining the thinking process and analysis behind gohogging. Check it out

Comprehensive LavaLoon Guide - How to three star TH9

I have used lavaloons for a while and just can't figure out why sometimes it's a one star but the other time it's an overkill three star ... on the same base!

Let's think about what are the variables and what are the constants of a base.

Variables :
1. CC troops - they can destroy your raid if they are not taken care of quickly
2. Queen - She can shoot down balloons and destroy you if she doesn't die quickly

Constants:
1. Your troop strength
2. Defenses strength.

So I believe if you can eliminate the changing variables as soon as possible, your results will be more consistent. Overall, 4 lavas plus 20 loons is a very overpowering troop against TH9.

The strategy is to pick a map that
1) You can easily lure out CC and kill them with heros because heros don't really have much of use in an air raid other than cleaning.
2) Kill that queen with lava puffs. So you need to pick a map where queen is right next to an AD. You must start your raid from that side of AD, put 2 hounds over, rage on top of the AD and queen and have the puffs to take out queen as soon as possible.

Troop composition :
1. If it's lvl 6 AD or below, I use 4 lavas
2. If lvl 7 all over, i might have to use 5 lavas
3. Rest loons
4. 4 rages

Clan XP, levels and how soon can we get there??

for complete information, see this link:
Clan perks and levels explained in details.

So you all can find out what perks we get at each clan level. I think the sweetest perks are
a) Extra war loot at Level 3,5,7,9
b) Donated troop upgrade at level 5 and 10

Yes, donation refund will be nice too.

So how long does it take us to get there??? Use these tables below

TH level don't matter. Top 25 bases are money. Bottom 25 bases don't count as much

Which means, a clan is better off winning a solid war getting a full amount of points than trying to go big and lose the war. There is a reason why top 25 bases count so many more points than the bottom so that the clan will not trying to use size to level up faster. For instance, if we get every base on a base 25 war and win it, we will have more points than losing a 50 base war and blank on even just 1 top base.

So based on the above information, and assume we keep it at base 25 war, it will take us 1.5 - 2 weeks to get to Level 3. About another 1.5 weeks to get to level 4. About 2-3 weeks to get to level 5. That's when things will get sweet. So, let's see.. that will put us somewhere around the end of April or beginning of May.

Here is the perk summary:

The Clan War is about who can three star max TH9

And two star TH10.

Game has changed recently after many clans have discovered dragons are only good for TH7/8, pure hogging is in the past and Gowipe can only get you two stars on mid/high TH9.

Everyone in the CoC community is in search of the next new troop composition to three star more TH9 and nail TH10 with at least two stars. Because whoever can do that will win the war.

After searching high and low even when I was taking my CoC rehab, I came to realization there isn't a one formula fits all anymore. It really depends on the map you are facing. And you really have to construct an army based on the map you are raiding and understand how to use each type of troops.

A point I do agree with is that if you don't use defense targeting troop type, 3 starring a max TH9 will be a real tough task to accomplish.

Before I show you some strategy videos. Let's review the pros and cons of each main war troop comp:
1. Hogs : fast without walls blocking them. Relatively higher HP and damage. But DGB kills them. Needs healing to survive. heros wreck hogs. Can't be healed under infernos.

2. Loons : Very effective with high HP and high attacking power, But you won't survive if Lvl 7 ADs are at presence and it's super slow

3. Gowipe/wi: strong troop strength and attacking power. Witches are the best to kill heros. But pekkas die too fast when near max teslas are nearby. Also walls slow down this troop type resulting 2 stars on near max TH9

4. Lavaloonion: it's either one star or three star. If loons don't survive, minons get killed. No one clears TH. Highly dependable on map layout. Although when you pick the right map, Quatrolavaloonion with 4 hounds can do the job.

A new way of thinking is to utilize all troops strength based upon the map you are raiding so you can end up with an army with everything: Hogs kill outer skirt ADS so you can use loons to take out defenses before sending in Gowipe or Gowiwi or just straight up witch wiz with heros. I also noticed the pros know exactly how to release loons and how many. It is never random. Rule of thumb: Without AD, 2 loons for wiz tower, 1 for everything else. Count precisely how many you need when you are killing defenses.

HoLoWiWi

Ok, so here is a video that talks about the new war troop comp called HoLoWiWi : hogs, loons, wizards and witch. Check it out :

If you have time to read the whole thing and watch all videos including how to scout maps, check out this page :
How to use HoLoWi in war to three star max TH9

GowiwHog
Another combo I have tried recently myself is mixing large amount of hogs (at least 16 or more) with Gowiwi. No pekkas. I personally had some success with it.

Here is a link you should read :
Three Star TH9 with Hogs and Gowiwi combo

here is a video showcase three starring a max TH10

Gowipe/wi with Balloons
You want to find those bases with very centralized ADs, preferably all in the core. If two are in core and two are out, you want to use hogs to kill the ones outside. You also want to find maps that have ADs concentrated on just one side. Send in Gowipe troops to knock out Core and Ads then balloons can trash the rest of the defenses. If Ads are clustered just on one side, you are in for luck cuz the other half of the map without ADs can be owed by balloons.  I have also seen people mixing Gowipe with Balloonion. So they will send in Gowipe first to take out Core and centralized ADs. When ADs are almost done, send in balloons far away from the very last ADs and then swamp some minions behind loons to clean.

The Braveheart Speech Will Style

So a lot of you don't know, Kitty has a 4 year old daughter. Last week after I got home from Sundance and was heads down busy clashing, my daughter Mae came up to me and asked,“Mommy, mommy, why do you choose to play games on iPad instead of playing game with me?"

Well.... I didn't know how to answer that question and it sucked.

I have long thought about quitting the game to address my addiction issue. I tried to slow down, I tried to step down, I tried to park my accounts at Oats 2. None seemed to work... I check my phone 30 times a day at work even my boss told me I have a phone issue. My friends said everytime I was with them, I wasn't really with them. Most importantly, I am missing out the quality time I could spend with my MaeMae.

It's a very heart broken decision because after all these months fighting side by side with all of you, I have gotten to know so much about you... I have never met any of you except Bear on the team, but you guys are all real to me...It's tough but it's time to quit the game.

We are not the same clan as we started back in November anymore. We have acquired great high level players like Chad and Math. We have also grown to a mature clan with each core member knowing exactly what needs to be done with very little supervision needed. I feel the clan is on a solid ground with very strong leadership under great players like White, Chad, Brett, Bear, even the No Loot Club president Will. :)

I will fight this last war with you guys then i will park both my accounts at oats2. I will make the best out of it whether I blank or not lol!!! It has been a great honor to play with all of you! Thank you to you all!! If you like, feel free to facebook me at "Christine X Zheng" Denver.

And here is Mae Mae saying hi :

Each Loss is an opportunity to improve

We haven't lost a war in a long while. If you look back in the days when we were still learning how to gowipe and trying to two star a TH9, we have come a loooong way. However, there is always room for improvement. There are always better and stronger clans out there so I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to learn a few things from this war.

Here is my takeaway :

Key to make this clan a better one is to improve our ability to three star tougher bases.

The reason we lost this war is because they are able to three star many of our tough TH9 bases but we couldn't. When defenses got stronger, our gowiwipe don't work as well. So here are some of my suggestions for you to try :

1. Gowipe guys try to practice gowiwi. That's how this clan is able to three star us. I built a new page called "3 Star Showcase" to show you some examples how to three star max TH9. I only have some Gowiwi examples. I will build out some air raids later and capture some of our own replays.

2.TH8 lvl 3 dragon raiders, You must learn how to raid dragons properly. You can't just drop the dragons and just go and hope things will happen on its own. You must learn how to take every AD into consideration and mix with other troop types to knock out ADs. Please review this old post I did and pay attention to the dragon raiding tips

Oats Insane Moments: Bears crazy loot Joel's crazy base

There are some crazy clan moments that most defininetly worth a spot here.

First up, bear hit the jackpot!! Have you ever seen that much loot? Not in my impressive 15 months CoC career!!! Too bad he couldn't take it all, have to come here to drool from time to time.

Joel just raided the most inappropriate base in CoC history, 600k loot as well!

will's braveheart speech that got Dragin tearing up

During Will's brief moment as Oats 2 leader, he embraced the braveheart spirit and achieved extradinary 28% on base 2, a well established TH10, gaining zero star. Meanwhile, Fancy and a Ryan rolled up their sleeves and bullied th7 bottom bases, gained 8 stars and took Oats 2 to its first victory.

Inspired by his fabulous work, Will gave this touching speech that brought tears to all so us, cuz we were laughing so hard...
